Hyderabad: Telangana Industries Minister K T Rama Rao on Friday announced that the State government would initiate steps for promoting industry in tier II & III towns across Telangana.

Speaking at T-Next conference on 'Reimagining and Catalyzing Growth for a Sustainable Tomorrow' organised on Friday by the Telangana Chapter of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) as a part of its State Annual Meet here, Rama Rao who also looks after IT and other ministries, said: "The Telangana Government is strongly committed to promote industry in the tier-II & tier-III towns and making lot of efforts in this regard".

The Minister claimed that Telangana registered double digit GDP growt. "We want to grow faster but Telangana economy has been affected by lockdown and eight quarters of slowdown in the Indian economy," he said.

Major sectors like life sciences, healthcare, IT, aerospace, and food processing contributed to the State's growth. "The construction sector has also seen good growth and it is second largest employment generator after agriculture in the country," the Minister pointed out.

After State formation, Telangana emerged strong, standing fourth place in attracting investments and was mong top three States in ease of doing business rankings.

According to him, the State's IT sector clocked seven per cent growth in FY21, reaching Rs 1.4 lakh crore mark. "The State will drive growth of its IT sector by focusing on emerging technologies and by rolling out proactive policies. On digital front, Telangana continued to focus on digital literacy. The State's skill academy focuses on improvement of sectorial skill and will partner with industry for skilling. The State has been one of innovation capital in the country having world class facilities like T-Hub and WE-Hub," he said.

Lambasting the Modi government at the Centre for not supporting Telangana, the Minister urged the Central government to sanction Bayaram steel plant in Khammam district and railway coach factory in Warangal, which were promised to the state during birufaction of united Andhra Pradesh.

The central government should also provide incentives to the State as per bifurcation and should also give priority to the States, who acquire the lands to the projects. If Hyderabad ITIR has been implemented, the State would be created two lakh more jobs, he added.

"CII, over the year, presented views and issues of the industry to the government through regular interactions and worked towards supporting the ease of doing business in the State and supported industry at large in the lockdown in solving their issues."
